Fabricated Components OverviewTo begin let's define what fabrication is in the metal working industry.
A fabricated part may be as simple as folding up a blanked out metal pattern and soldering the seams. The initial phase in fabrication is cutting out the pattern for the blank from a sheet of metal to be able to construct the actual part. This may be achieved through various methods, laser cutting, plasma cutting, water jet cutting, or the use of a Turret Press. From this point the next steps all depend on your requirements. There could be a welding operation to close up all the seams. (Unlike drawn metal enclosures, fabricated components will have seams). Since fabricated product requires no to little tooling it is a cost effective method for prototypes and small quantity production. Advancements in technology have kept this metal forming process very viable and applicable for many product applications. Fabricated product, when constructed properly, will be as effective in most applications just as a seamless machined or drawn unit. Our area of expertise is in the small-fabricated units (cannot fold anything longer than 39") , such applications we have built product for are circuit boards in the electronics industry. |
